Introduction to Science
During the first three weeks students have been exploring and learning about how to think like a scientist. We started with an article, "How Creativity Powers Science" by Jennifer Cutraro. We read the article in class and had a whole class discussion on what the article was about. The next assignment we worked on in class was a dead scientist report. Students had to research a scientist that lived in the past, summarize their findings in a one page report, and create a tombstone based on their summaries.
After the report and tombstone were turned in we went over the scientific method, each step in detail. The students were given a Lab Report Outline that they will use as guidelines to write their own reports. The first report we will complete summarizes the Bubble Investigation that we started this week.
UPDATE: 6th Graders have not finished the Bubble Unit. They will finish on Tuesday (10/7) and begin Earth History on Thursday (10/9)
Earth History
The 7th and 8th graders have started this unit of study. We are currently investigating Grand Canyon rocks.
